good condition hardback in the original green cloth binding and dust-jacket.
foxing to fore-edge and a little foxing to outer edge of some pages. fading to foot of spine, otherwise the binding is in good bright condition. a slight forward lean.
the dust-jacket has a 2cm loss at foot of the spine and two long closed tears to the lower side, with a few other small edge tears, otherwise complete, but a bit dusty. not price-clipped.
the First Edition of the very scarce first appearance of Hornblower.
Only 12,000 copies were printed (a tiny number compared with later titles), and survivals complete with the Rowland Hilder designed dust-jacket are particularly hard to find.
