Two important reports on the salmon, white fish and shell fish fisheries on the Solway Firth at the end of the 19th century.

 The Commission on the Solway White Fishery looked into the various methods of fishing practiced on the Scottish coast of the Firth  -  Paidle-Nets, Haaf-Nets,  Trawling, and Sparling Fishing, and the conflicts arising between the fishers of white fish and the proprietors and tacksmen of the salmon fisheries.

10 page report followed by 88 page minutes of evidence and Appendices.

  The 1896 Commission concentrates on the Salmon Fisheries of the Solway, and to a lesser extent, White Fishing.  

Comprises a 26 page report, 2 maps, and 189 pages of Minutes of Evidence and Index.
