a tidy little copy of this important collection of rules and regulations for the governance of the French merchant marine in the 17th-century, covering the 'Officiers de l'Admirauté' and their jurisdiction; the men and ships; maritime contracts, including charter-parties, freights, engagement of crews, letters of marque, etc.; the policing of the ports, coasts, roadsteads, and shores of the sea; and the sea fisheries. together with an explanation of marine terms.
Polak (7160) cites two editions, a 4to edition of 1681, and a 1687 smaller format reprint, but not this 1682 printing.
a little light staining and marking, but generally clean. skilfully re-cased into the original near contemporary calf binding,
rebacked with original gilt decorated spine relaid, and with repairs to the corners.
