McLAREN BOOKS  -  THE LONG ESTABLISHED SPECIALISED BUSINESS DEALING IN RARE & SECONDHAND NAVAL, MARITIME AND YACHTING BOOKS

 IS FOR SALE

Background

For nearly 50 years McLaren Books has been one of the foremost businesses in the UK specialising in rare, out-of-print and quality secondhand Naval, Maritime and Yachting books .

Within a niche market McLaren Books is a recognisable and highly respected brand  leader.

For many years the business was run as a full-time sole income business, at its peak, generating an annual gross profit of ca.£70,000

In recent years, the business has operated at a more reduced part-time level.

There would be scope for developing the business back into full-time operation, or it could serve as an add-on income.

 What the buyer will get:

The Name and 45+ years of goodwill of ‘McLaren Books’

A fully active e-commerce website (subject to agreeing terms with the the website managers and transfer of Shopify account)

A ‘start-up’ stock of approx. 2500 titles with a retail value of ca.£45,000

Facebook social media account

A bespoke book cataloguing software programme, together with a back list of some  28,000+ entries, and accompanying image library of several thousand images.

An established presence on the bookselling umbrella site ‘ABE’ (subject to transfer of account ownership)

As a long established and visible business in the field of maritime books, McLaren Books is one of the first ports of call for people and institutions trying to sell their books, so acquiring new stock is not likely to be a problem. Over the years private buying has been the mainstay of stock acquisitions.

Summary

For many years McLaren Books was run as a full-time and successful business. Recent years has seen a more relaxed approach to running the business, on very much a      part-time basis

It would be possible to operate the business in its current ‘part-time’ set-up, to provide a business side-line and top-up income. But with enthusiasm and some hard work, for someone with a passion for all things maritime, I am confident that McLaren Books could be resurgent as a vibrant, viable and comfortable life style supporting business.

As there are no physical premises it also benefits from being a business that could be  easily relocated anywhere in the UK (or overseas)

A start-up stock list can be sent out on request.
