an important work on British maritime trade in the mid-19th century, comprising a 'Sketch of the History of the Navigation Laws', 'The Law as it is', 'The Anatomy of Competition with Foreign Ships'. Ricardo was Liberal MP for Stoke-on-Trent and one of the prime movers in the campaign to repeal the Navigation Acts, accomplished in 1849.
