an original paper presented to the Royal Society and printed in their Transactions, in which the author proposes the use of jets of oxygen and hydrogen to ignite a ball or cylinder of lime.

Various experiments established that the light produced was of sufficient brilliancy, but economy was not in its favour [not to mention sounding highly dangerous], and with Drummond's employment preventing him from continuing with his experiments, the invention was never fully developed or put into practise
