an important collection of forty-one substantial documents relating to Workington Harbour.
The documents are manuscript copies dating from ca.1880's of legal documents dating from 1722 to 1884 that mostly relate to the Curwen family of Workington and their involvement with Workington Harbour, including legal actions brought by or against the powerful Lowther family, together with other documents relative to the harbour; including agreements with colliers and shipmasters, legal briefs, a 41-page engineer's report on the harbour dating from 1877, agreements for building works, bonds of indemnity, and deeds of covenant, etc.
