a good detailed manuscript log, clearly written, recording a voyage, departing November 1875 from Liverpool, to Calcutta and Rangoon with a cargo of salt, and the return voyage via Port Elizabeth, to London, with a cargo of rice and timber.

The Ship's captain's wife died during this voyage and was buried at sea.

And another voyage to Calcutta from London, with the return voyage finishing in October 1877.

More detail on the second voyage:

The 'Eurydice' was towed out from London to Gravesend by the steam tug 'India' on November 22nd 1876, and commenced her voyage on the 24th.

She soon encountered very heavy weather in the English Channel and Bay of Biscay  -  "a tremendous heavy sea....ship rolling violently....terrific heavy squalls....".  Quite a bit of damage occurred and the caro was shifting.

The gales eased by the start of the second week and the ship benefited from the north east trade winds,  losing these on day 29.

She rounded Cape of Good Hope on January 24th and reached Calcutta on March 23rd

She remained at Calcutta till the end of May, commencing the return voyage on the 28th, rounding Cape of Good Hope on July 16th, sighted St.Helena on August 6th, and after a fairly uneventful voyage, the 'Eurydice' was towed up the Thames on October 11th, and was hauled into East India dock at 3pm.

The round voyage took 10 months and 21 days

283 days at sea in all for the two voyages, and nearly 50,000 miles sailed.

'Eurydice' was an iron sailing ship, built by the Isle of Man Shipbuilding Company in 1865, and owned at this time by Robert Brown, with London as the port of registry.
