an original paper extracted from the Philosophical Transactions of The Royal Society. Probably the first appearance in print showing Seppings' planned innovations in the construction of the Royal Navy's men-of-war with the introduction of diagonal bracing, one of Robert Seppings' lasting legacies in the improvement of the construction of the ships of the Royal Navy in the 19th century.

Sepping was knighted in 1819 and retained the position of Surveyor of the Navy from 1813 to 1832.
