the George V class battleship HMS Duke of York and ships of the Home Fleet left Portsmouth on 31st August 1948 and for the next 16 days conducted exercises and battle manoeuvres in the western approaches.
The fleet then set sail for the West Indies, conducting further battle simulation exercises en route, and arrived in Barbados on October 8th. During the next month the fleet visited other West Indian islands before leaving the Caribbean on November 11th, arriving at Norfolk Naval Base on the 15th, when the diary ends.
