generally clean internally, with more signs of wear to the second volume, which lacks front and rear end-papers and any other preliminary pages prior to the opening page of the Book of Isaiah.
Both volumes are bound in elaborately decorative Scottish wheel bindings.
The bindings are in good sound condition, but these are bibles that have been used for their intended purposes, and over the years the gilt decoration has become dulled, more so on the second volume, which has seen the most use.
The bible was owned by Agnes Taylor; quite likely given to her as a wedding gift. Each volume contains a leather strip with her name and the date 1777 to the front paste-down, and the first volume records the date of her marriage, June 22nd 1777, and the birth dates of her four children (with the time of birth for the first three).
