lately discovered in the Highlands and Northern Parts of Scotlandin a series of letters to G.C.M. Esq.[George Clerk-Maxwell?]  by John Williams, Mineral Engineer

Williams, John

Edinburgh, printed for William Creech, 1777.

1st edition. 8vo. ppvii 83. folding frontispiece engraving of Craig Patrick from a sketch by  Mr. Watt, Engineer.  staining to top of title-page with general light soiling to the page. scattered foxing and browning throughout, but not severe.

1790 ownership inscription of D. Gourlay to top of title-page.

The Craig Patrick referred to is a vitrified hill fort to the north of Inverness, not the  mountain in Ireland.

the inclusion of a printed letter relating to the sketch suggests that it can be attributed to the famous Scottish engineer, James Watt. (unless there was another engineer with an interest in things Scottish living in Birmingham in 1777)
