an original ledger recording tobacco imports into Liverpool between November 1959 and May 1962.
each double page is headed with the date of import, the name of the ship, departure port, number of casks, and the tobacco company importing the cargo.
the ledger records the date cargo weighed, cask numbers (old and new), manifest weights (gross, tare and nett), landing weight, amount sampled (4 pounds) and the sampler's initials.
each consignment is signed off by the samplers, weighers, etc. and a customs officer.
